Also: I will not be putting through or answering any more questions about practicing magic around children. I've answered those in simple declarative sentences in the FAQ. If you read the FAQ and don't think your question has been answered, read it again. If that doesn't help, consider remedial reading classes; yes, it really is as simple and straightforward as the FAQ says. And further: I've decided that questions about getting goodies from spirits are also permanently off topic here. The point of occultism is to develop your own capacities, not to try to bully or wheedle other beings into doing things for you. I've discussed this in a post on my blog.
The image? I field a lot of questions about my books these days, so I've decided to do little capsule summaries of them here, one per week. As I mentioned last week, once I found a publisher willing to bring out my fiction, a lot of it found its way into print in a hurry, so we're going to be in tentacle territory for a while now. This was my fifty-first published book, the fifth volume in The Weird of Hali and the only book in that series that takes place in a town that actually exists. Yes, that would be Providence, Rhode Island, across the Seekonk River from where I live now. I had the chance to visit partway through the process of writing the story, which was helpful, and also has a lot to do with why I live in Rhode Island these days. I used a mashup of H.P. Lovecraft's Providence stories as the raw material, so we get to find out what Charles Dexter Ward was really up to.
One of the entertaining features of these novels is that I kept on having to come up with new, colorful ways to do in the villains. It's Lovecraftian fiction, right? They can't just die in some bland ordinary way, like being shot. This one borrowed one cause of death from Lovecraft himself and another from Arthur Machen, one of the writers Lovecraft admired most, whose writing I appreciate and whose thinking annoys the bejesus out of me. I thought they both worked tolerably well. If that sounds entertaining, why, you can get a copy here if you're in the US and here if you're elsewhere.
Buy Me A Coffee
Ko-Fi
I've had several people ask about tipping me for answers here, and though I certainly don't require that I won't turn it down. You can use either of the links above to access my online tip jar; Buymeacoffee is good for small tips, Ko-Fi is better for larger ones. (I used to use PayPal but they developed an allergy to free speech, so I've developed an allergy to them.) If you're interested in political and economic astrology, or simply prefer to use a subscription service to support your favorite authors, you can find my Patreon page here and my SubscribeStar page here.

And don't forget to look up your Pangalactic New Age Soul Signature at CosmicOom.com.
With that said, have at it!
***This Magic Monday is now closed, and no further comments will be put through. See you next week -- and in the meantime, if you're a US citizen and haven't done so already, VOTE.***

Date: 2024-11-04 02:53 pm (UTC)My husband and I have both been sensing a malicious, incorporeal entity periodically around our home for the last several years. We have had a couple of more or less direct encounters, during which one of us have driven it away (mostly just through rejecting it/telling it to leave/pushing it away energetically, and/or praying). However, it seems to return periodically. Neither of us get a sense that it wants anything in particular from us that we can discern. It feels to my husband less like a powerful danger and more like a nuisance he wants to swat away; he described its energy as unpleasant and discordant. Provided that we are in fact encountering the same entity, it feels more dangerous to me, and seems to be a demon if my dream encounter can be trusted. Visually, it appeared to my husband once as something like a vividly colored butterfly whose wings were eyes, but usually we encounter it in dream or as a sensed (but not seen) presence while waking late at night.
We have only felt it at night, after bedtime, until (maybe) yesterday. Yesterday evening after supper we were discussing the entity and what to do about it. We suspect that it might be involved in a persistent state of pessimism, negative emotion, and volatile mood that my husband has been experiencing. We both then felt a weird sort of subtle fog fill our kitchen. It didn’t feel particularly malicious or horrible, but it did feel as if it were muffling and depressing our subtle energies and senses. We did not distinctly sense the entity itself, only the fog. I then started gathering some condition oils and spiritual supplies to try to deal with the entity (unfortunately I’ve been pregnant or nursing the whole time it’s been around, and my husband doesn’t practice magic, so ritual magic has been out). At that point, my daughter, who just turned two, ran into the other room, suffered a bad fall, and gashed her head open on something we can’t identify and ended up in the emergency room. My intuition is that the accident had something to do with the entity and/or the fog, perhaps as a reaction to my preparing to try to drive it away, but she is a toddler and does fall all the time, so it may be coincidence.
I also suspect that this might have something to do with my cousin (who is also our neighbor) with whom we have been embroiled in a conflict over land and now a lawsuit for the last few years (hopefully the lawsuit is about to wrap up). My cousin is full of resentment and rage and having weird mental episodes (he accused me of sneaking into his house and breaking his dishes, for instance, and of hacking his video doorbell, and he occasionally sends vicious screeds that reveal obsessive resentment over old and nonsensical grievances, and he occasionally destroys some of our property in a rage). I suspect that my cousin is in the grip of demonic obsession, and I wonder if the maybe-demon keeps coming around us because of this unfortunate link between us and my cousin.
To very broadly summarize, we’ve tried prayer, positive visualization/affirmation, natural magic for healing/blessing/cleansing, and energy healing. Happy to give more deatails. This seemed to be keeping it at bay, but if the fog and accident are related, this seems like an escalation. Other than renewing and doubling down on these efforts, I would very much welcome any insights or suggestions that might help clarify or resolve this situation.

Date: 2024-11-04 07:13 pm (UTC)I might be more effective in targeting my natural magic if I could figure out whether the phenomenon is primarily astral or etheric. The fact that we experience it mostly at night makes me think the thing might be etheric, as does a certain lack of vitality we’ve been experiencing, but my husband’s emotional struggles and the involvement of my cousin make me lean astral. If I understand correctly, either a demon or an egregor would be primarily astral, whereas ghosts for instance would be etheric. The fog and the accident occurred last night, so the moon was just a few days into to waxing. I didn’t think to note the moon phases during the other encounters, but I’ll do so if they continue and see if I can discern an etheric pattern.
