1. If you plan on parroting the party line of the medical industry and its paid shills, please go away. This is a place for people to talk openly, honestly, and freely about their concerns that the party line in question is dangerously flawed and that actions being pushed by the medical industry et al. are causing injury and death. It is not a place for you to dismiss those concerns. Anyone who wants to hear the official story and the arguments in favor of it can find those on hundreds of thousands of websites.
2. If you plan on insisting that the current situation is the result of a deliberate plot by some villainous group of people or other, please go away. There are tens of thousands of websites currently rehashing various conspiracy theories about the Covid-19 outbreak and the vaccines. This is not one of them. What we're exploring is the likelihood that what's going on is the product of the same arrogance, incompetence, and corruption that the medical industry and its tame politicians have displayed so abundantly in recent decades. That possibility deserves a space of its own for discussion, and that's what we're doing here.
3. If you plan on using rent-a-troll derailing or disruption tactics, please go away. I'm quite familiar with the standard tactics used by troll farms to disrupt online forums, and am ready, willing, and able -- and in fact quite eager -- to ban people permanently for engaging in them here. Oh, and I also lurk on other Covid-19 vaccine skeptic blogs, so I'm likely to notice when the same posts are showing up on more than one venue.
4. If you don't believe in treating people with common courtesy, please go away. I have, and enforce, a strict courtesy policy on my blogs and online forums, and this is no exception. The sort of schoolyard bullying that takes place on so many other internet forums will get you deleted and banned here. No, I don't care if you disagree with that: my journal, my rules.
With that said, as government officials scramble around like a cat trying to bury its droppings on a vinyl floor, and the unvaccinated wonder why so many vaccinated people have oddly puffy faces these days, the floor is open for discussion.
fox pressure suddenly hit my teen
Date: 2022-03-08 08:03 pm (UTC)I feel so bad for her. The social alienation she's experienced locally that was caused by the pandemic restrictions makes camp feel like the only normal place she can go--this is compounded by the religious component, as Jewish summer camp really is the only place she is surrounded by kids culturally akin to her--and now she cannot go because we refuse to get her vaccinated with a dodgy, improperly tested new technology against a disease she already had that caused no symptoms.
This isn't going to make or break anything. But it's the first time the insanity has touched my family personally. I was able to get an exemption and keep my job, my relatives think we're being silly about the fox but have agreed not to discuss it. We're missing a cousin's wedding but she lives in Canada and there's just no way for us to even cross the border b/c of the vax restrictions so it doesn't feel personal. But my daughter suddenly breaking down over not being able to see her friends this summer...it makes me sadder than anything.

Date: 2022-03-09 10:54 am (UTC)I.e. it’s extra difficult refusing her the vaccine because the best possible case is that we are wrong and it’s no big deal.
Thank you for the kind words.

Date: 2022-03-09 11:37 am (UTC)Still - do you mind if I pray for you, Ms. Krieger?
I hope it won't come across as insensitive when I say that I've actually had the opposite experience recently - my girls had a fantastic time at summer camp last year and were really REALLY looking forward to going again this year, and I was fully prepared to have to have a conversation with them about why they couldn't.
But, no sooner did camp registration open than my province dropped its mandates.
There's hope.

Re: fox pressure suddenly hit my teen
Date: 2022-03-09 02:07 am (UTC)if such an option is available, maybe offer her the out that if she hates it, you will come and pull her out? it might be worth a try... just spitballing here.
in any event, best of luck to you and your daughter.

Re: fox pressure suddenly hit my teen
Date: 2022-03-09 11:01 am (UTC)It seems the teenagers have been hit the hardest and your parenting challenge has been immense.
Ours is young enough that we've been able to dodge conversations about why we don't go to places we used to go and just talk about doing new things instead. But I know that won't last forever and someday questions will come up about how these changes happened.
I wonder if the tide has changed enough for you to push back on the regulation? Our state indicated initially that when the masks came off at school it would only be for the foxxed and I feared our little one would be forced into a discriminatory situation at school. I was preparing to push back and lining up all the studies when the school itself came out strongly behind 'optional for everyone regardless of status'. I then found myself having to check in with the kid to confirm that WE don't discriminate against any kids who are still wearing a mask by (their parent's) choice. Complete 180 from where I thought we'd be at the moment.

Date: 2022-03-09 06:29 pm (UTC)I've been mum on the topic of late, as anything I say will simply arouse resistance and reinforce her determination.
My ex has become somewhat more open to evidence and arguments against the vex, and I've just sent her a couple of references. The biggest difficulty is she gives the MSM her primacy of credence; she trusts authority far more than her own, or anybody's, independent judgement. If my ex can be persuaded to turn, she has a better shot as dissuading our daughter than I do.
I've been looking for tempting options I might offer her in lieu of summer camp.

Date: 2022-03-09 08:01 pm (UTC)An 11-year old really can‘t be expected to oversee the potential consequences of such a decision, alas, so arguing with her on a rational level is probably futile. ;-(
So maybe somebody who has some emotional access to her?

Date: 2022-03-09 09:06 pm (UTC)It's just a horrible, impossible situation.
I've been asking for prayers and divine assistance, as I just can't come up with any other approaches.
