a long lonesome roadThe semi-open posts  I've hosted here on the Covid-19 narrative, the inadequately tested experimental drugs for it, and the whole cascading mess surrounding them have continued to field a very high number of comments, so I'm opening yet another space for discussion. The rules are the same as before:

1. If you plan on parroting the party line of the medical industry and its paid shills, please go away. This is a place for people to talk openly, honestly, and freely about their concerns that the party line in question is dangerously flawed and that actions being pushed by the medical industry et al. are causing injury and death. It is not a place for you to dismiss those concerns. Anyone who wants to hear the official story and the arguments in favor of it can find those on hundreds of thousands of websites.

2. If you plan on insisting that the current situation is the result of a deliberate plot by some villainous group of people or other, please go away. There are tens of thousands of websites currently rehashing various conspiracy theories about the Covid-19 outbreak and the vaccines. This is not one of them. What we're exploring is the likelihood that what's going on is the product of the same arrogance, incompetence, and corruption that the medical industry and its tame politicians have displayed so abundantly in recent decades. That possibility deserves a space of its own for discussion, and that's what we're doing here.

3. If you plan on using rent-a-troll derailing or disruption tactics, please go away. I'm quite familiar with the standard tactics used by troll farms to disrupt online forums, and am ready, willing, and able -- and in fact quite eager -- to ban people permanently for engaging in them here. Oh, and I also lurk on other Covid-19 vaccine skeptic blogs, so I'm likely to notice when the same posts are showing up on more than one venue.

4. If you don't believe in treating people with common courtesy, please go away. I have, and enforce, a strict courtesy policy on my blogs and online forums, and this is no exception. The sort of schoolyard bullying that takes place on so many other internet forums will get you deleted and banned here. No, I don't care if you disagree with that: my journal, my rules.

With that said, as the mass media insists that it's perfectly normal for pro athletes to drop dead of heart attacks at sixty times the usual rate, and search engines turn up a steadily increasing series of hits for the search string "died suddenly," the floor is open for discussion.

Over the last weekend I had gone to a SF/Fantasy convention in Portland OR that I had been attending since 1989. That was when I was an awkward kid in high school with quite a lot of baggage from a fundamentalist christian upbringing. That was where I had first heard of this thing called 'nature spirituality'. It opened so many doors. And the people. I had always enjoyed the lively debates and intelligent conversation that was lacking in the mundane world.

After being on hold from the pandemic last year, I did expect it to be a bit different. but not this much.

The entry requirements were either proof of being fully foxxed or a negative lab test within the last 72 hours. No exemptions due to age, health, or natural immunity from prior infection.

Not wanting to play that game, I just ghosted. It felt more like a grey man exercise.

Attendance was well below half of the usual number, now skewing more heavily PMC. I did catch up with a few people I knew, but there were some notable absences.

Given the entry requirements, I kept silent on my own status, expecting things to slant towards the pro fox side. Under estimate. When the topic of the fox came up, mandates were the norm. In a place I had loved for all of its critical thought, any deviation from the fox narrative was pure heresy. Glad I was able to steer things well enough to avoid direct questions on my status. Let the assume. I'm not a good liar.

Some of the more choice comments to paraphrase from memory:

"The requirements kept out all the riff-raff."

Referring to denial of medical treatment: "Broken ankle and not foxxinated? Out the door with you. Foxxinated and a heart attack? (Oh Saint Toad, the irony) Come on in."

"Our daughter had to stay home from school because of covid exposure. We took her to martial arts class to get her out of the house. They don't do masks or social distancing." said with a smirk.

Referring to the scotch served at a wake for those who passed in the last year: "It's cheaper than horse dewormer"

The whole bloody thing felt like a wake.

No idea what the losses are going to be from the fox, but the social losses are racking up. Know your strengths, remember your friends, and hang in there.

Thanks JMG for hosting.

I wonder, who is more fanatical and a true believer? Your fundie family? Or the vaxxers?

OP
I should clarify on that first part. My folks, bless 'em, are fairly moderate Christians. With the best of intent, they thought I would do best in a private school. The only local one was baptist. They were nutters. Think authoritarian, end times, you will be persecuted stuff. Went there K-6th grade. Bad trip.

I may not be Christian, but recently I gave sincere thanks to the God of Abraham for all that I went through. I don't think I could have been immune to all this emotional manipulation and gaslighting without it.

On the question, I would have to say they are on par for fanaticism. Granted, any group of people is going to be on a spectrum. The only difference is how much power a group has. Even at it's height the influence of religious fundamentalists in government and corporate policy was limited due to some Constitutional protections. I see the woke/covidians playing the same role as a theocracy. They are proving quite destructive.

"I don't think I could have been immune to all this emotional manipulation and gaslighting without it."

In a related vein, I've finally stated to think there may have been SOME positive result of having been raised by a mother with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), and a father (and other extended family) who swallowed her version of reality and did nothing but enable her.

Narcissists are horrible. Even when, like my parent, they're not physically abusive, the lies, manipulation, gaslighting, and projection are dreadful to live with, especially when one is a defenseless child. Most of her impact on my life was the opposite of useful.

But now....I have to say that, having grown up amidst the dysfunction of narcissism, I find myself viewing the whole covid debacle with greater clarity.

To me, the tactics deployed by the government propaganda machine during covid - the lies, manipulation, gaslighting, and projecting of the faults of those in power onto their victims - are all as clear as day. I'm incredulous that people are falling for this, as it all seems just so obvious to me. But then I remind myself how many people fell for my mother's shtick and enabled her.

So maybe the misery of having had to survive an NPD parent has finally had some benefit.

Given the entry requirements, the people who were notably absent might be the ones with a more nuanced worldview. Do you have any means of getting in touch with them to build up a new community for yourself?

OP again

Yep, been digging up old contact info. One of those no cell phone/anti-social media types. I expect it to be a small number of people though.

Did a 3 card reading. Got Death, The Moon, and the 2 of Swords. None reversed.

Sounds like I should best be spending more time working on my hermitage in the woods for the time being. Moved out of a blue hive a little over a year ago. Aside from all the projects that need to be done, that call to get serious on spiritual practice has gotten very strong.
