It's time for Magic Monday again, my intermittent open post on occult theory and practice -- so ask me anything about occultism and I'll do my best to answer it. Any question received by midnight tonight Eastern time will get an answer, though it may be Tuesday sometime before I get to them all.

    Through meditation, or simply by paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and actions, you can learn to differentiate the two planetary energies and balance yourself between them. For example, I've got a Saturn-Mars square in my chart; by maintaining a conscious balance between the cold patient resistance of Saturn and the hot passionate dynamism of Mars, I can make use of either one at will. "The wise rule their stars, fools are ruled by theirs" -- it's an old adage and a good one.

    Thank you for this. I also have Mars square Saturn, and I also wondered what you meant about squares being a source of strength.

    I wondered if a Saturn talisman would be useful for me, despite the affliction, given his position (in my natal chart) in Libra. I think you answered that as well!

    Basically, to make use of an astrological talisman of a planet, that planet needs to have more dignities than debilities. In many of the old books -- Lilly's Christian Astrology is one good example -- there are numbers assigned to each dignity or debility; for example, a planet in the sign of its exaltation gets a +4, while a planet in the sign of its fall gets a -4. If you go through and add up all the dignities and debilities, and you come out with a positive number, you can make use of a talisman of that planet, and the higher the positive number the more powerful the talisman will be for you.

    Oh, I can see that. However when one has four planets conjunct squaring three planets conjunct the noise level gets pretty high, making it difficult to distinguish one 'voice' from another. Still, meditation is an option to try. Thanks!

    Actually, if they're conjunct, they're singing the same tune, so you can simply learn to distinguish the influence of one group from the influence of the other, and start with that. Later, through meditation and self-observation, you can learn to pick apart the individual influences, and play them against each other.

    Surely, I ought to play them WITH each other, as in creating a harmonious melody with chords. Is that not what one does with highly tensioned strings to make music of the spheres? (:-D
