I've taken the lineage of OBOD back as far as I can, and now it's time to jump to another initiatory lineage, the Martinist Order. It's bad form (and forbidden by the obligations of initiation) to reveal the name of your Martinist initiator, even indirectly; thus I'm going to leap over the last several steps in my Martinist filiation to this gentleman, René Chambellant, whose title as a Gnostic bishop was Tau Renatus. Born in 1907, he was an oral surgeon by trade, and spent many years in central Africa teaching oral surgery and dentistry at a college in the Congo. He was initiated into Martinism and numerous other esoteric orders by Robert Ambelain, one of the great figures of the modern French esoteric traditions; in 1944, after the Gnostic patriarch Constant Chevillon was assassinated by the Nazis, Chambellant became the head of l'Eglise Gnostique Universelle, one of the major French Gnostic churches of the time. Several important Martinist lineages received their initiation through him.

This week I would like to bring special attention to the following prayer requests.

JH's mother-in-law Sue, who lives in Spain, has had a severe arthritis affliction in her knee that has left her unable to walk for weeks now, leaving her more or less bed bound; for prayers and/or healing energy for swift resolution of the issue and swift recovery of her ability to walk.

Tanamous's friend's brother David got in a terrible motorcycle accident and has been diagnosed as a quadriplegic given the resultant spinal damage; for healing and the positive outcomes of upcoming surgeries and rehabilitation, specifically towards him being able to walk and live a normal life once more.

One of

open_space's best friends, Patricio Lopez de Nava Amezcua, was shot and killed last week; for the safe and pleasant passing of his soul. (Photo of Patricio here.)

Nicole's (shewhoholdstension) 41 year brother Robert died suddenly in bed on May 15th; for a smooth and blessed journey on the other side. Robert was a single dad and he leaves behind three children: Hannah, Zack, and Jordyn; that they and Nicole be blessed and protected, and find what comfort they can during this very difficult time. (Update here.)

Lp9's request on behalf of their hometown, East Palestine Ohio, for the safety and welfare of their people and all living beings in the area. (Lp9 gives updates here and most recently here, and says "things are a bit... murky"), and the reasonable possibility seems to exist that this is an environmental disaster on par with the worst America has ever seen. At any rate, it is clearly having a devastating impact on the local area, and prayers are still warranted.

To Share: First, I've made it through Grade 2 of the Dolmen Arch, Gradd yr Damcaniwr! Thanks very much to everyone here who has answered questions and given support. I'll be starting Grade 3, Gradd yr tomorrow. Secondly, I asked about Shani Oates and her books a couple weeks ago, and I went ahead and read her book The Hanged God: Oðinn Grimnir. To Ask: In reading the above, Ms. Oates gives a large chunk of the book over to talking about draugar, Old Norse restless dead. They're usually thought of as corporeal, but her references highlighted their links with barrows, which put me in mind of the Vampire chapter in Monsters, and leads me to think their descriptions sound more like etheric beings. She also brought up, almost off-hand, how there were a handful of tales of these barrow-dwellers becoming dragons, and since my mind was already on Monsters, I thought about that chapter as well, and how dragons were also etheric beings. So, my question is: since both were/are quasi-corporeal etheric entities, do you have any thoughts on whether there might ever have been "vampire"-to-"dragon" transformations with the old mound technology and/or its debased forms?

I do work with a group using Golden Dawnish methods two times a week (cabalistic cross, plus a guided meditation that involves the middle pillar) but I am very interested in getting a hang on CGD, about two months in the Ovate Grade.

Is there a reason why I might get problems if I keep them separate?

On a podcast long time ago titled Occultism 101 you mentioned of a ritual that makes you very aware of subtle energies. May I ask what the ritual was?

Hello GMG,
Thank you for your suggestion to use 6 Wh-questions. It structured my meditation to the extent that I could call it a meditation compared to my previous attempts when after the preliminaries I lasted for about 30 seconds and then my mind went first blank and then got flooded with random thoughts. Now I can actually have some thoughts as opposed to my thoughts having me.
My next frontier is recalling the events of the day in reverse. I find it excruciatingly difficult. Overall, I've been blessed with good memory and decent attention..., but it doesn't help! I start and by the time I am at around 5 pm, I lose my track. I start recalling things that I skipped, go back... and realize that I don't remember the order and the details of the minutiae, especially if I've done something involving multiple small steps spread throughout the day. For example, today I started making a loaf of bread at 9 am and it was ready by dinnertime. It was intertwined with many other tasks. I don't remember the sequence. Did I do SOP before to after kneading? Did my friend drop by before or after I shaped the loaves? Also, I am a list person. I make a list of things to do and check it off. At the end of the day, I remember the list, but not the sequence. What is the level of details to be recalled? it the recollection supposed to be visual? For now I tend to recall it verbally ("... and before that, I read a book" ot something like that)

Dear JMG, I know you don't do video, but a deep-sea fisherman named Ryun Coleman has posted footage on Tiktok of what he believes are mermaids.

I know that on the internet, anything can be faked. And every year, new videos are put out that are most likely fabricated. But somehow, this one seems significant. I read your book "Monsters", and maybe it is a sign that something important is about to happen? Am I imagining things? What do you think? What does the commentariat think? Has anybody else recently seen, or heard of things that go bump in the night, like, more than usual? I always liked the idea of mermaids existing, even though I'm aware of their dark side. But this gives me the creeps.

One synchronicity that I can come up with, is the recent release of Apple's new Virtual Reality glasses. No doubt, this will enslave even more people to dopamine shots delivered through the technology of the digital overlords. The video of this person claiming to have encountered mermaids may be fake, but the siren's call seems uncanninly similar to the lure of technology trying to lead sailors to their doom to me.

Greetings JMG!

Here's a thought regarding "Archetypes" (in the Jungian sense).
I'll try and be as concise as possible here, just want to bounce this premise off of you this week! ;^) Here goes...

The archetypes in a Jungian sense exist in the "collective unconscious" of the human race. This puts them outside the subjective experience of any one single person, and available to All of humanity. That said, they appear outside the time/space continuum, and seem to be "objective", since they transcend any one "personal unconsciousness". There are "many" archetypes overall, but "cross-culturally' the archetypes of pagan pantheons all seem to have variations or masks/personas of the same Seven major archetypes. For example the Trickster archetype typified by the Greek/Roman Hermes & Mercury; Germanic Odin, et. We'll just keep to the seven "major" here.

Additionally, these archetypes also have their "shadow" mask/personas too, i.e., Loki/Odin for example. My point here is not to get into a large comparison of pantheons, but to attempt to conceptualize an "Archetype" + "Mask/Persona" in any one pantheon = a "god/goddess" in any particular pantheon!

The Archetypes are All the Same! What differentiates an archetype in any given pantheon from another pantheon is the Cultural form or mask/persona of that particular culture. In this sense the "gods/goddesses" can be said to be "objectively" real?

Is this a fair thing to say in your opinion?

On the second to last Covid post boccaccio posted a preaty good summary of Egon Fisher and Peter Denks predictions an outlooks on the situation. And some valuable comments as to the perspective.

Still the topic left me wondering. And it so happened that I was involved in tree separate conversation groups this week, and the "weltuntergangstimmung"/"armagedon mood" was pervasive. So referencing the authors above:

- It is an open secret these days, that Europe/Germany is struggling, and it will get worse over the next years. And there have been death wave predictions going on since 2 weeks before I was born. But the authors mention a shift on the "spiritual" plane. Have you noticed something like that?
- There is talk of something like a separating of the worlds. And although I belive them, when they say one cannot imagine it yet. There is also mention of there being a difference if you are atunned to higher or lower "informationfields" (I read this in context as vibrations). People with lower vibrations are going to be in a lower world and people with higher vibrations are going to build a better world in hard times. Fits a bit to snuggly in the rapture model for me.
But from a practical standpoint this mirrors some of my divinations, that there are going to be opurtuneties in the future, for those who would take them / have the mindset. Being an easily cynical/pesimist person, how can one, lets use the expresion, "atune to higher vibrations" in order to not get boged down in the armagedon mood in these times?

At this point on my long and winding path (somewhere in the middle?) I've caromed off the rails of that deep dichotomy of: deities as "independent spiritual realities", and the "archetypal" one. At times they both seem valid, as when you get "gooseflesh" upon invocation. Sometimes like "Fox Mulder", I just "Want to Believe", "Something!" This is something so "personal" for each practitioner to eventually discover for themselves that I almost didn't ask the question.

Let me add here a quote which I've found inspirational in it's sheer simplicity:

There seems to have been extraordinary political synchronicity between the US and UK throughout my adult life, from the Thatcher-Reagan moment, but strikingly so this week with Trump and Boris facing the music. It seems more than the UK being a fully-owned subsidiary.

Is forensic astrology a thing? Could you play this backwards and identify a place-and-time at which they began to share a chart that foreshadowed this? Like the mundane astrology but starting from a non-public event?

A data point and a question.

Many months ago I asked about the bent nail/salt protection against an elderly relative who seems to have developed the trick of draining energy from others. I used it for a while and the problem seemed to diminish but a few weeks ago I became aware that spending any time with them at all was once again making me all but useless for several hours afterwards.

Google seemed to be unable to find my original discussion with you but of course there's detailed instructions in the FAQ. I had all the materials I needed to hand so I went to work bending a few nails, partly filling a bag with salt, dropping in the nails and topping off with more salt.

I was bending over the bag attaching a thong when there was a sound like a pistol shot from the small refrigerator that sits next to my desk. Bemused rather than shocked I finished tying the knots and opened up the door to find that a small bottle of Coke that's been in main body of the unit for months had somehow frozen then exploded. It cleaned up easily, just shards of glass and ice mostly - and putting the bag round my neck on a thong I detected a mild lifting of my mood that's lasted all day.

I don't think this is a coincidence at all although it certainly counts as a personal record as the most extreme physical reaction to a piece of magic that I've ever encountered (not that I have much experience to draw on). I'm wearing the salt and nails during the daylight hours at the moment and will continue to do so for the foreseeable.

Apart from this and I assume, the SOP - are there any other precautions you would recommend?

Hi JMG, this is a bit of an unusual question but I'm at my wits end. I don't know if you've explored the occult dimensions of cannabis growing, if so I have a question about the grow I'm running.

It's an aeroponic array with computer-controlled LED lighting and irrigation. The lights have been positioned in a pattern consistent with Devi-Krishnamurti mandala designs in order to channel the energy of the Sahasrara chakra, and the alignment of the power train and cables was chosen in accordance with feng shui principles to promote the flow of chi through the grow space along dragon meridians. The aeroponic system, in its capacity as distaff couterpart to the lighting system, is shaped to attune to the Swadhistana chakra, arranged in an intersecting spiral pattern derived from the kshetram of the Perur Shiva temple in Tamil Nadu. The reservoir tubes are aligned in such a way as to carry energy from the main water tank (located at the eastern edge of the room to channel the power of Qinglong, guardian of the east and sovereign of water from Daoist cosmology) into the room following the pattern of Erinite ley lines.

My question is: in your experience, can Sahashrara and Swadhistana energy act in harmony in a grow space with only minor modulation through the Daoist zodiac or will these forces require additional interceding factors in order to promote a healthy crop? The Sahashrara/Swadhistana combination was chosen based on consultation with our Vedic adviser but he apparently mixed the wrong drugs at Burning Man and is currently in a psychiatric facility. I also spoke with the healer I see when visiting LA and she recommended that we modulate the energy flow using a refractive orrery of crystals attuned to the sidereal mansions of Vedic astrology. However, we're already hanging three chalcedon stones from the lighting system to acknowledge the other three Daoist guardians and one of my assistants walked into one and chipped a tooth last month so I don't know if I want 12 more crystals suspended in the grow area.

The issue of energetic balance came to a head last week when we had a small fire break out in the grow room leading to the loss of a couple plants. I suspect the incursion of Agnic energy may have resulted from the imperfect balance of cosmic and water forces manifest in a Sahashrara/Swadhistana combination. My partner says the assistant who was working that day probably overloaded an outlet when he plugged in the power supply for his TV and Nintendo Switch but I already told him not to play video games at work and I know he's a responsible guy, he's been clean for three months now.

I'm a novice in astrology, and what I do know is from Tarnas' Cosmos and Psyche, so I've been more interested in thinking about personal transits and how planetary influences can combine in various ways.

In the past I've never felt compelled to use it to predict future events (I just find beauty in relating the planetary movements to the archetypes they represent.) But I experienced a very significant series of events last week where I felt some external influences.

What sort of chart would you use to look back on the planetary influences affecting you on a particular day? I don't think a natal chart is it, but when I cast it there were definitely some interesting things going on...

Secondly: I was the anon who previously wrote in about Athena, and I think she had a huge role in enabling me to do what I needed to do last week. One of the signs I saw afterwards, oddly enough, was a synchronicity from an animal video on social media.

A bird was caught in a fishing wire hanging from a tree, and a man walked over to calmly unwrap its wing. I was immediately struck by that bird's experience: it was trapped through inexplicable means, after a period of time was freed through inexplicable means, and was left dazed as a result.

Took a while for the real punchline to sink in: it was an owl!

One of the ideas I came across in meditating on this dovetailed with your current series of ecosophia posts, and I wanted to know what you thought.

I used a simple hierarchy of animals on one level, us one level above, and gods a level above us. Just as we're leaving a lot of incomprehensible artifacts for animals, the gods similarly leave their incomprehensible artifacts for us.

What really seemed interesting was an idea of "alternation" between these different levels. We're currently in a "disenchanted" time, and as a result are leaving a lot of physical evidence of our activities. Are animals currently living in an "enchanted" time as a result? Are the gods' activities having similar effects on our cycles of civilizations?

Hello,

I'm a fiction writer. I find that when I get deep into drafting (particularly a first draft), I am completely exhausted after only 2-3 hours of work. I need to sleep far more when I am working on a new draft, and I often almost feel like I am fighting off the flu for a few hours after intense work. (Notably, this isn't when I'm actively working—just afterwards). This has been going on for many, many years, and aligns perfectly with periods of writing first drafts, so it's not a physical health problem.

1.) Is this normal, or in the range of normal...? Or is it a sign of some sort of imbalance?

2.) Is the exhaustion likely coming from drawing heavily on the astral plane/astral body? I generally associate exhaustion with problems with the etheric body...but the etheric body doesn't have much to do with mentally creative endeavors like writing, does it? I honestly don't feel confident that I fully understand the different types of bodies/planes in practical application, though I have read about them repeatedly and they make sense to me when I read about them.

3.) Do you have any remedies to suggest?

Some questions about astrology:

1. Who were the first astrologers to develop the idea of astrological charity? I’ve studied about this kind of work on websites, but there are books or articles about it!?

2. And about fixed stars: I think their study must be associated with the person's birth chart. Are there specific astrological remedies for problematic fixed stars in the birth chart? Are there Talismans for stars as well as planets?

3. I think that after knowing the planet with the lowest coefficient in the birth chart, we should create a certain intimacy with it, doing spiritual and material activities related to this planet. Is it a correct thought?

In the HOGD tradition, is the word “consciousness” used interchangeably with “mind”?
For instance, for the Kybalion principle “all is mind”, would that be a non-dual stance that everything is “consciousness”? In other words, consciousness, mind and matter are all one substance?
And in DF’s definition of magic, does the “shifting/change of consciousness” mean a change in perception and awareness (which in some traditions is called “mind”)?
I’m asking because of the contrast with the dual Sankhya Yoga metaphysics where Consciousness (Self/Spirit) is with Mind-Matter (body-mind), but is a different “substance” than what is used for perception and “seeing” (body-mind) instruments, vs the “Seer”. The substance dualism metaphysics, as I understand it, is part of the learning/evolving process of ultimate Consciousness alone remaining: Self-Realization (“Self” as pure Consciousness, Spirit, Divine Spark).
I know it’s not the best policy to try to squeeze one system into another, but maybe just a bit about my original question: are “consciousness” and “mind” used interchangeably in the HOGD tradition.

I hope my comment found you in good health and good humour. I am writing to you with two issues bothering me.

The first is an issue, somewhat intimate yet wildly important. I have recently sat down with Taoist writings pushing hard on semen retention in men. I am not interested in immortality (so far the occultists have not had much success here), but I am interested in how Druidism looks at this issue in terms of building up magical power. Is it necessary? Is it helpful? Is it a matter of building up tension that the adept can cleverly use for magical practice. Will retention allow one to gain more ,,mana'' straight out of fantasy games :D

And a second question. How does Druidism look at the issue of para psychic abilities, lately there have been a lot of videos on the internet depicting telekinesis and of course I know that 99% of them can be false but I am still curious about your opinion on this topic. I believe that we have not yet all learned the laws of nature, so is it fair to assume that things like telekinesis are possible? And if so, what line of research (book titles, scientific papers) would you recommend?

Curious to hear what other sources have to say about the idea of being inside a sleeping god's dream, with the cycles of time ending/restarting (apocalypse etc) being periods where such a god wakes up. (sort of riffing on the vedic tradition here about Vishnu).
