It doesn't much matter anyway, what the little people say. But, just occasionally, pitchforks early goes a long way in nerfing an "entangling alliance". Better an ounce of preventions than try and get out later. TPP anyone? Son of Nafta is STILL making a giant sucking sound. Are we not debating at this moment whether, just maybe, it's ok for NATO to consider tactical nukes? Treaties aren't THAT easy to break, without political cover from pitchforks.

It's a nation to nation treaty, for now. The whole point of these 'crisis' we are living through is to make these Extra-National bodies more powerful and able to arm-twist nations. Lot's of procedural buraucratese is being lodged in place so it's good to go when they want to flip the switch. After, of course, multi-year and multi-stage semi-engagement.
