The Wealth of NatureI'm very pleased to announce that The Wealth of Nature: Economics As If Survival Mattered, my widely acclaimed book on ecological economics, is headed back into print. Founders House Publishing is now accepting preorders and will be publishing the book on or before October 13, 2021. Here's the cover blurb, for those who aren't familiar with this end of my work:

*********
The Wealth of Nature proposes a new model of economics based on the integral value of ecology. Building on the foundations of E.F. Schumacher's revolutionary "economics as if people mattered", this book examines the true cost of confusing money with wealth. By analyzing the mistakes of contemporary economics, it shows how an economy centered on natural capital—the ecological cycles that support human life—can move our society toward a more productive relationship with the planet that sustains us all.  Profoundly insightful and impeccably argued, this book is required reading for anyone interested in the intersection of the environment and the economy as we enter the twilight of the Age of Abundance.

Excellent! I own a copy and always thought it was one of your most important works. Glad to see it back in print, and hopefully knocking some sense upside a few heads this time around. The part about the primary, secondary, and tertiary economies alone is enough to show the deep fallacies in most economic models. I wouldn't take an economic theory seriously if it can't address those points.

Do you think your books "Not the Future We Ordered" and "The Blood of the Earth" might benefit from updates, given the weirdness that happened since they were written? Perhaps you can try to make second editions at Routledge and Scarlet.

Out of interest, is there many changes to these two?

I ask because they both seem like solid evergreen books. About the only difference I could point to in 'After Progress' is that the ITER now has an estimated cost of 25 billion euro where as in the book it was still only 17 billion. Needless to say, your points have aged very well.

Legacy

Schumacher's personal collection of books and archives is held by the Schumacher Center for a New Economics library in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The center continues the work of Schumacher by maintaining a research library, organising lectures and seminars, publishing papers, developing model economic programs, and providing technical assistance to groups all for the purpose of linking people, land, and community to build strong, diverse local economies.[15] Den:)

To be clear--this is a reprint, not a revision?

This was the first book of yours I read, way back in my days as a hardcore scientific materialist. I was very impressed and have since given copies away as gifts. My worldview has also significantly broadened since that time. And I thank you for that as well!

Great

Glad to hear, as I was foolish enough to lend away the previous copy I had and it didn't make it back before the borrower's demise. I will be putting in an order through my local bookseller.

If you don't mind JMG -- please just don't put the comment if this is too commercial -- I hope I can give a quick plug for the excellent services of Mr Hunt in Rugby, Warwickshire, England https://huntsbookshop.com/ in case anyone else needs a superb independent book and music retailer in that region.

Hello!
I read the first edition when it was first published. It was very good. I used it extensively as a source book when I was still being invited by leftists to make presentations about environmental and energy issues. I no longer get such invitations now! Never mind!

Congratulations for the second printing though!

Regards

Better cover. More attractive, and shows at a glance what the book is about.

I had been eyeballing this one to add to the list, so glad it's coming back into print. Also glad that I have held off on Retro Future, since a new edition will be coming out.

Only related in that it's about one of your books from Founders House - I just received my Weird of Hali Cookbook (and it looks great! Can't wait to try some of the recipes), only I received two copies instead of the one I ordered and paid for. Any requests/recommendations on what to do with the second copy?

I hope it's updated more than the 2018 Long Descent, which really cold have used a good dose of "and now, to years later..."

But will preorder this one.
