In mundane astrology -- the astrology of politics and history -- the conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn every 20 years are considered to mark generational turning points in human affairs. Because of the way the orbits of these planets are timed, those conjunctions happen in signs of the same element for a long time -- for example, they've been happening in Earth signs since 1842. When the conjunctions shift into a new element, that's a Grand Mutation, and it marks a major change in world history. We've got one of those coming up this December; Jupiter and Saturn will be conjunct in the first degree of Aquarius, marking the beginning of a 199-year-long Air cycle. The only bigger deal in mundane astrology is a conjunction of these two planets at the beginning of Aries; the last of those happened in 1702 and brought the modern world into being.
