Also: I will not be putting through or answering any more questions about practicing magic around children. I've answered those in simple declarative sentences in the FAQ. If you read the FAQ and don't think your question has been answered, read it again. If that doesn't help, consider remedial reading classes; yes, it really is as simple and straightforward as the FAQ says. And further: I've decided that questions about getting goodies from spirits are also permanently off topic here. The point of occultism is to develop your own capacities, not to try to bully or wheedle other beings into doing things for you. I've discussed this in a post on my blog.
The image? I field a lot of questions about my books these days, so I've decided to do little capsule summaries of them here, one per week. The book above was my fiftieth published book and my eighth published novel. (Once I found a publisher that was willing to take a chance on my fiction, it came out in a rush, so we're going to be in tentacle land for a little while!) Miriam Akeley, a sixty-something college professor, was an important subsidiary character in the first two Haliverse novels, and took center stage in this one. As usual with these novels, I had no idea where it was going to end up and was astonished by some of the twists and turns.
One of the reviews this novel got finally succeeded in cluing me in about why my fiction leaves so many people baffled. The reviewer thought it was a good story, but was completely floored by the fact that Miriam was, you know, an ordinary person, without superpowers or anything else that made her unlike the rest of our species. That's when I realized that the reason so much of today's fiction sucks is that it's obsessed with the dreary fantasy of being the One Special Person around whom the whole world revolves. Me, I prefer stories about the rest of us. If you have similar tastes, you can order a copy here if you live in the US and here if you live elsewhere.
Buy Me A Coffee
Ko-Fi
I've had several people ask about tipping me for answers here, and though I certainly don't require that I won't turn it down. You can use either of the links above to access my online tip jar; Buymeacoffee is good for small tips, Ko-Fi is better for larger ones. (I used to use PayPal but they developed an allergy to free speech, so I've developed an allergy to them.) If you're interested in political and economic astrology, or simply prefer to use a subscription service to support your favorite authors, you can find my Patreon page here and my SubscribeStar page here.

And don't forget to look up your Pangalactic New Age Soul Signature at CosmicOom.com.
With that said, have at it!

Re: What's in a blessing?
Date: 2024-10-28 07:05 pm (UTC)As I type this, I'm thinking about your post on Schopenhauer, and wondering if perhaps a way out of the quandry is to view blessing as just a moment of aligning my will with what I feel is powerful and beneficial and then focusing toward another in hopes that they benefit...
2) That makes sense, practically and helpfully. Thanks again.

Re: something perplexing
Date: 2024-10-28 07:21 pm (UTC)I wasn't going to post anything this week since I don't have any new questions to bring the the table, but you might find this book I found online somewhat helpful/interesting: The Evil Eye by Frederick Thomas Elworthy
https://sacred-texts.com/evil/tee/index.htm
Some dreams pointed me towards The Evil Eye as one of the primary modes of malicious workings and the whole subject is fascinating! This book is an in-depth look at it.
Also - I'm so sorry you have to have to deal with this. It's no fun

Date: 2024-10-28 07:41 pm (UTC)Affirmation Advice
Date: 2024-10-28 07:46 pm (UTC)I would be grateful for your advice on an affirmation. I practice the "healer" level of the MOE daily, and also practice reiki. The affirmation I'm playing with is "I am a competent energy worker." My objective is to improve as a healer, and since my concept of what I do is to channel energy, that's why I chose "energy worker" rather than "healer". What do you think?
One more question, if you will: My long-ago reiki teacher believed that once you engage reiki you can just keep your hands where they need to be but your mind can wander all over the place. Intuitively, this strikes me as not correct. In fact, it seems a tad disrespectful. I try to keep myself out of the "healing" energy component and just focus on being a channel, for both reiki and MOE. Do you have any opinion on this?
Thank you for your generosity is sharing your experience and your time!

Date: 2024-10-28 07:51 pm (UTC)This is Joe Greenstein, a Polish-American Jew who became one of the major figures on the strongman circuit under the stage name The Mighty Atom; he used Cabalistic incantations and meditations to amplify his considerable strength. This is a guy who could, and repeatedly did, tie a #2 iron horseshoe into an overhand knot with his bare hands.
This is Genevieve Stebbins, the Jane Fonda of women's exercise at the beginning of the 20th century. She was also a very high-ranking adept in the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, one of the leading occult orders of the time.
These are the two figures on the interface between occultism and exercise that I know most about. There were thousands of others. Most of them weren't famous; they were ordinary men and women who decided that being strong and healthy beat the bejesus out of the alternative, and used the power of their minds as well as their bodies to get there. A lot of them lifted weights -- free weights, please note, so they could develop the little stabilizer muscles all through their bodies. They liked kettlebells, dumbbells, and Indian clubs:
It was good robust stuff and I hope to see it revived someday.
Re: Raising kids
Date: 2024-10-28 07:51 pm (UTC)1. My two youngest are very interested in my daily rituals, though I normally do them before they wake. When I do them later, even in a secluded spot, one of them often finds me and wants to be near - similar to our cats who also seem drawn by the Sphere of Protection. I generally discourage my kids from hanging around my ritual work, though one in particular is very drawn to it, and is also quite energetically sensitive. He has asked to be taught the SOP but is still too young. I've opted for teaching him prayer, and visualizing light, essentially teaching some basic Modern Order of Essenes style clearing. All my kids are over 7 and they still struggle with sitting meditation, though we still try. I find that labyrinth walking works better, and better still is observational meditation. We have successfully worked with the nature observation practices from the Druidry handbook (like picking a square foot of ground and observing multiple times.)
2. Myself and other occult friends have recently been lamenting that we erred too far on the side of not indoctrinating our kids into our beliefs, discussing our beliefs and practices too little where it would have been better to discuss them as often as they were pertinent and on our own minds. I think this plays into the objects in the home. I have been working this past year on owning my spaces and pulling my sacred objects out of hiding. I increasingly believe in fully living my own beliefs, and offering my children the regular reminder that they are free to question, challenge, explore, and believe differently.
3. Multiple times, I was able to soothe a screaming baby in the backseat by visualizing them bathed in light, warmth, and love. I have also had success relieving nightmares with prayers to ancestors, guardian angels (whom I work with even without being a Christian,) and in extreme cases doing banishings in the bedrooms of the afflicted. We've also had success with dreamcatchers. For my family the spiritual protection works similar to the physical protection - we try to stay clean and balanced as parents and pay attention, when the kids talk or have fears, we listen and take them seriously.
Wishing you well!

Date: 2024-10-28 07:56 pm (UTC)Pain for gain?
Date: 2024-10-28 08:02 pm (UTC)Slightly strange question this but then I've had a weird last few days - I have a new pain syndrome that has come on this weekend. Although there is a tentative mainstream medicine explanation for it, I cant help feeling I've at least partially, subconsciously, enhanced and willed it on my myself. If you agree this is possible, is there anything in the magical way of life to help reverse this kind of self imposed manifestation of pain? I'm guessing it might be something to do with 'controlling or alligning the will'?
In this case it is linked to an irritated/damaged nerve and is not a thing totally new to me as I had weird double vision come on in 2014, and that officially led to a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (yes, the MRI saw lesions and that cemented the deal). The weird thing was, the vision pattern I had did not fit the official diagnosis of 4th nerve palsy. It was only a few months before my parents both died in quick succession, and I'm fairly sure it was linked with a subconscious response to the beginnings of that period. Calling it M.S. just feels like it only touches the surface. Does this make sense?
Thank you. JP

Date: 2024-10-28 08:11 pm (UTC)1. What is the difference between praying to your Higher Self versus your HGA?
2. Is one of these easier to communicate with?
a. If so, which one?
b. Are some methods of communication better than others for each one?
3. Can one of these beings/states of consciousness do things the other can't?
Thanks as always for Magic Monday.
