Mundane Astrology: Coronation of Charles III

coronation crownThe coronation of a new monarch is a traditional focus for mundane astrology, and so -- as part of my ongoing exploration of that field -- I worked out the coronation chart of King Charles III of Great Britain as soon as I was able to find the time for the coronation. Since this is a subject of tolerably widespread public interest, I've gone ahead and made it a public post on my SubscribeStar and Patreon accounts, so those who haven't subscribed to either can still read it. You'll find it here:

It's an interesting chart, and leaves me thinking that Charles arranged for an astrologer to choose the date and time; astrological conditions are difficult all through this year, but the chart does as good a job to give the new reign a good start as it probably could. (A grand trine and a well dignified midheaven aren't to be sniffed at.) Now we'll just have to see what happens...

I'm glad the Royals still have an astrologer capable of a good election.

Nice. And generous of you to make your time and efforts open to the WW public.

I hope Charles iii and his heirs find joy and longevity in serving those who serve them. The 9Th house never runs deep, until it does.

As a Briton, I have been waiting with anticipation for this, so thank you very much for making it public!

In my neck of the woods, the bunting is already starting to make an appearance, and street parties are planned everywhere. My friends and I are even doing a celebratory walk (or hike, in American ;)

Fingers crossed all goes well. I wish our new King and Queen the best.

I really appreciate you sharing this chart with the general public, JMG. For better or worse ‘King Chucky’ is my monarch and his silly face will soon be stamped on my nation’s currency. Certainly the map of the heavens well reflect the course of matters down below: the chart, however, seems to be more challenging than grim (well, barring the ominous 8th house) than I would have expected given how rickety the old order has become.

Viewing the chart superficially through Vedic astrological eyes, the one thing that jumped out at me is that all planets but one are lumped together in five successive houses with the Moon isolated with three empty houses on either side. In Vedic astrology, the Moon always does better when not alone (kind of like a timorous person who is fearful if living alone); I am not sure if the same is believed in Western astrology. I get the feeling that the mind of the king is ‘waaaaay out there’ and is divorced from virtually all aspects of his kingdom. (Yes, I am sure that the Grand Trine helps to mitigate it, but I see that as a person alone in a home who likes to chat on the phone with friends to keep himself from wigging out) But maybe that’s just my idiosyncratic take on the chart.

This chart could provide a useful check on the whether the relevant location for a coronation of a king of multiple countries is the location of the coronation, or the local capitals. In particular, the chart takes on a much more malefic indicator for Canada; and so it may be worth keeping an eye on events in Ottawa. Uranus in Taurus on the ascendant opposite the Moon in Scorpio in the 7th, in particular, looks particularly ominous.

The naughty teenager in me can't help but wonder what it would be like if the new king had an incompetent astrologer pick the day, and the coronation took place within the immediate influence of the previous day's eclipse!

This too is going to be a big part of it:

When King Charles is officially crowned during his coronation ceremony on May 6, he will be seated upon centuries of British history.

For over 700 years, the Coronation Chair has been integral to marking the beginning of a new monarch's reign, providing a centerpiece for the crowning of royals like Henry VIII, Elizabeth I and Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

When the chair was originally commissioned by King Edward I in the early 1300s, its primary purpose was to house the monarch's newly acquired Stone of Scone (pronounced "skoon"). The 300-pound rock had previously been in Scotland's possession, whose monarchy had used it as a throne for hundreds of years — though some legends date it as far back as Biblical times.
