Do consider — we're talking about funny hats here; this is not to be taken lightly! Are you sure that you want to risk venturing out in this dangerous world unprotected by that funny hat? Are you certain that funny hat is the right size for its new and potentially big-headed beneficiary? Are you confident that funny hat hasn't grown so attached to you that it might not survive the separation?
Sorry, I had to take a little break to wipe away my tears, but that did allow me to come up with this brilliant solution:
Unless someone thought to utter that potent childhood incantation "No takebacks!", you could probably snatch that funny hat right back off anyone's head. Even if they started arguing back "No do-overs!", you could tell them that the whole time you had your hands in the most powerful mudra known to any child, the dreaded fingers crossed. Or you could just tell them that you blew your nose on the funny hat; then they might even give it back voluntarily.
