I agree with you about the breach of trust in the US health care(?) system. I never trusted it much before Covid and certainly don't now. One thing I can recommend: most of us would like to have a knowledgeable doctor or other medical professional we can trust and who we can get to know and vice versa, for those times (accidents, etc.) where health care is essential. I recommend looking for an osteopathic doctor (an O.D.). A good osteopathic doctor will have good, solid medical training, and can prescribe tests, etc. when needed. they can also do "osteopathic manipulations"--somewhat like a chiropractor but, in my experience, much more gentle and effective. I am fortunate to have two osteopaths in my vicinity, both of whom I like and trust.
