Magic Monday

Card 3It's getting on for midnight, so we can proceed with a new Magic Monday. Ask me anything about occultism and I'll do my best to answer it. Any question received by midnight Monday Eastern time will get an answer. (Please note:  Any question received after then will not get an answer, and in fact will just be deleted. I've been getting an increasing number of people trying to post after these are closed, so will have to draw a harder line than before.) If you're in a hurry, or suspect you may be the 143,916th person to ask a question, please check out the very rough version 1.0 of The Magic Monday FAQ here.

The image?  That's the third card in The Sacred Geometry Oracle. Card 3, The Line, when upright tells you that it's appropriate to continue in the direction you're going; when reversed, it warns you that you are crossing a line into unfamiliar territory and some things will have to be left behind. The oak leaves on the sides of the image tell you that this card belongs to the first third of the oracle, which corresponds to Calas, the principle of solidity and materiality.

I've had several people ask about tipping me for answers here, and though I certainly don't require that I won't turn it down. You can use the button above to access my online tip jar. If you're interested in political and economic astrology, or simply prefer to use a subscription service to support your favorite authors, you can find my Patreon page here and my SubscribeStar page here.

Bookshop logoI've also had quite a few people over the years ask me where they should buy my books, and here's the answer. Bookshop.org is an alternative online bookstore that supports local bookstores and authors, which a certain other gargantuan corporation doesn't, and I now have a shop there, which you can check out here. Please consider patronizing it if you'd like to purchase any of my books online.

And don't forget to look up your Pangalactic New Age Soul Signature at CosmicOom.com.

With that said, have at it!

***This Magic Monday is now closed. See you next week!***

I had been trying to pray regularly but had lately been slipping back toward the atheism I was raised with. (You know how people often are pulled back toward the religious beliefs of their youth.) When I tried to pray again after a long period of not, I had a weird prickling/tingling at the back of my neck. Like novels always say you feel if someone's watching you. What if anything might this mean? Should I try to continue praying every day again? Thanks!

Hi JMG,

I received a fascinating surprise book for Christmas called "The Book of Fate". Allegedly, it was a divination system used by Napolean, though that is likely just a mythological veneer.

https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/napoleon-s-oraculum-1839

The three curious things about it were:

1. The use of a 5 line binary system, compared to say geomancy's 4 line symbolic system leading to a total of 32 different configurations
2. The use of an xy graph based on the type of question and resulting symbol leading to the answer/fortune
3. The use of masonic imagery throughout the book and especially the graph itself.

I've never heard of any potential relation of Napolean to any sort of occult groups. My first guess was that this work is related to the french occult scene of the early 19th century and was tangentially related to geomancy itself, given the configurations physical likeness to the geomantic figures.

Are you familiar with it at all?

I stumbled across a YouTube channel featuring music tuned to A at 432 Hertz earlier this year. That number piqued my interest, so I searched the net for it. I found claims with scientific support that it calmed people and helped them concentrate and occult explanations that it did so by interacting with different chakras than music with the standard A=440 Hz tuning. Have you heard of this and, if so, what do you know about it?

Re: solstice blessing

We are in central Vermont, but since we rarely leave our place it's hard to know how far this reached. One of our neighbors and friends was also celebrating the solstice with her children and emailed with a Whoo Hoo! afterwards. :-) We rang bells as part of our celebration as did she and we encouraged several friends to ring bells as well and sent them Jethro Tulls "Ring out Solstice Bells" video. https://youtu.be/BbBCCqPtEV8 Got some lovely replies. Who knows?! Something broke, lifted, dissipated and hasn't returned. We are most grateful!

Archdruid,

1) In a previous magic Monday a reader asked about a dry spell they had with their magical practice where they didn't feel like they were advancing at all, and you advised them to keep at the practice until they were past the dry spell. I'm wondering if the same is true for other disciplines, where a person keeps practicing and doesn't seem to make any head way, then suddenly there is a burst of progress? Is it possible for a practitioner to purposefully use dry spells, as in lay off advancing a practice by just drilling down on a single skill, and use that to boost the whole practice forward?

2) Can you suggest a affirmation to help me end my day dreaming?

Regards,

Syfen

Hi JMG, as a Michigan native I was wondering what areas you found conducive to magic practice around here? I've never done magic anywhere else so I have no idea how my area stacks up to any other region.

Are those papers available to the members of the Society of the Inner Light?

After all the human body is the most sophisticated laboratory of the planet isn’t it?

Is this related to the rhythms of the body that overlap at the location of the vorteces of the Middle Pillar?

Initiations

[personal profile] joshuarout 2021-12-28 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Dear J.M. Greer,

I'm interested in comparing the different goals or aims of initiatory systems. You've indicated before that there can be failed initiations, or initiations that don't take. Comparing the two systems of initiation presented in The Way of the Golden Section and in The Mysteries of Merlin, 1) what are the differences in the results or effects of those two systems, and 2) what could be the signs in each that the process has not been successful?

Regards, and thank you for this forum,
Josh Rout

Thank you, as always!

You once said that in the fringes it gets chilly sometimes. I think I am starting to understand what you meant by that as that chill finds expression outside of those corners. Hanging on to my hat and trying to pass it on as much as I can afford to grip.

Hermes hexagrams, recap

(Anonymous) 2021-12-28 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
So two or three times I’ve done the Mercury hexagram invocation we’ve discussed, and it feels good. I want to make this a part of my regular practice.

What about the color of visualization? So far I’ve visualized the hexagrams in silver, like the track of a Fourth-of-July silver sparkler. But in The Art of True Healing Israel Regardie says the colors of Mercury are yellow (positive) and orange (negative), positive meaning the color you visualize when you wish to send Mercury energy to someone else (presumably with helpful intentions) and negative when you need assistance from Mercury yourself; or so I understand. Therefore following Regardie I suppose I would be visualizing the hexagrams in orange, as I wish assistance both with legal matters relating to my tenancy, and also with success in a business I am planning soon to launch. Though I must confess I’m rather fond of the silver.

Do you have an opinion on this? Will one color visualization be more efficacious than another? Or is it a matter of preference, given these choices?

Re: Solstice turning

In that regard, I noticed how the energy shifted starting about 48 hours before the solstice to a higher pitch and stayed high until about 48 hours afterward, when it shifted back to its more usual level. I wonder if that's solely because I am getting better at perceiving subtle changes in energy, or if it might be because this particular solstice featured a larger than usual shift in energy?

Hello JMG,
Thank you for this blog. In your book on natural magic you've discussed various magical properties of foods, plants, and such. Do family pets (cats and dogs) have any magical properties?
Warmest Regards,
Kirsten
