The problem with what you seem to be suggesting is that you don't have access to the will of a mass obsession -- it's still inside the people who are obsessed -- and so you can't sublimate it. Quite the contrary, since they outnumber you by a huge majority, the most likely outcome if you try to do that is that you'll get sucked into the obsession yourself. As Fortune points out elsewhere, it's never wise to try to join a group of crazy people in an attempt to make them sane; they outnumber you, and that matters. Just focus on sublimating your own will, and let their craziness run its course.
