It's been a while since I originally read that -- I'll have to go looking for the reference.

(edit) Well, here's a documentary with German broadcast footage from 1935, and here's an article on an early-TV website that gives the beginning of regular German broadcast TV as March 22, 1935. I notice, however, that the first American station, Philadelphia's WPTZ, apparently went on the air late the previous year, so the Germans weren't quite the first; I'll keep that in mind for the future.
