Aw and today is such a good day for starting it (astrologically)😞 Looking forward to when it begins. Much success to this endeavor.

I know. I did an election for the date and time.

This was originally going to be released in May of 2020. I can only hope that all the enthusiasm for the project among my readers hasn't died of dry rot before it finally sees print, if it does.

The problems with publishing books, or at least, some kinds of bokks, seem to really begin now. Luckily, I already have bought many of the books I'm interested in.

There have been cascading delays in publishing since the beginning of the virus panic, and like most of the shortages and delays, they seem to be getting worse. So far all that's happened to me is that several projects have been delayed -- The Ecotechnic Future and The Weird of Hali Cookbook got out anyway, which was welcome. We'll see about the others.

So, not a great time for young authors to get started, eh? Think publishing will right itself in the next few decades after it goes through crisis?

It's actually a very good time to get started. Unless you're insanely talented, you won't sell many manuscripts at all for the first few years you pursue writing -- I certainly didn't -- and you might as well get that phase over with while few publishers are buying and most of your potential competition is getting frustrated and deciding to do something else. I expect things to sort themselves out within a few years, so if you get to work now you'll be in a good position to catch the next wave as it starts to roll toward the shore.

Perhaps a more hopeful that is happens before the Old Ones rise and make the game one of the 'before times' things to reminisce about.

Just went and looked up dnd rules for druids.
They get the feat Archdruid at level 20. But more importantly they get Timeless body at level 18. They age 1 year in 10 years.
So no worries, John you should have another 900 years to start the Kickstarter before you die of old age. :-)

On the other hand you might outlive the Kickstarter itself, or the internet.

Ha! Back when I played D&D we didn't have druids yet, more's the pity.

So. You started a campaign; real life. You rolled a druid, without knowing what the class meant.
Leveled it to epic level without paying any attention to the class features.
All because … it was fun ???

Funny thing, there was this dude on the net, sounded all cool and wise and stuff.
So, being bored with the lvl 2 "office drone" I got. I decided to multiclass.

All fun and play. You get to pretend you are doing a magical ritual, play with some funny looking domino pieces, and get some alone time just sitting in silence. :-)

It's a tabletop RPG -- think Dungeons & Dragons but set in the upside-down Lovecraftian universe of my tentacle fiction -- and it uses the Mythras rule system (if you're into RPGs, whisper "RuneQuest 6" very quietly). The order page is here, but you may want to wait until the Kickstarter goes live, as I believe there will be various freebies available for people who buy it as part of that promotion.

The good news is that your fans are very patient. We play the long game, not short term gratification.

It will get here when it does and so be it.

As you are aware, I have been working on my fanfic for a while now, finally getting traction.

That as an aside, a friend of mine just finished his book and decided that he was going to publish using Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing.

Now, I realize that many feel that Amazon is the source of all evil on the planet, but I kinda wonder if you have considered something like that. Seems like a decent deal. Mike says that he get 70% of sales which doesn't seem too bad.

While I would be lucky to make any sales at all (which would be true even for a traditional publisher) I kinda think that with your name recognition and reputation you may well profit by such a plan. I am seriously thinking about when I finish just doing this myself to save myself the pain of the almost inevitable rejection letters.

I understand that this may trigger some folks, but just thought I would bring it up

Not an option for this project -- it uses a proprietary rule system, so going with a publisher that has the rights to that system is pretty much the only option. (Nor do I want to go to the trouble of rewriting the whole thing to use a generic d20 or 3d6 system instead.) I also have options other than the Big Slimy River, and given the way they rip off everyone they interact with, I'd have a hard time justifying giving them business.

Dubiously relevant, but at least it's a WOH question. Three of Brecken's recipes refer to a "1/2 cube butter or margarine", and notes on things to do with Miriam's lentil recipe refer to a "3/4 cube". Please ask her if these were supposed to be "1/2 inch cubes" or the equivalent volume - which seems a bit meager in a couple of cases - or do you actually buy butter parceled into cubes instead of sticks on the east coast? Or something?

Oh, okay, that's funny. Maybe it's a Pacific Northwest slang thing but "cube" was the standard term for a stick of butter I learned growing up. Translate that as "1/2 stick" and "3/4 stick" and you'll be fine.

It occurs to me to mention that a standard stick/cube of butter or margarine in the US is 4 ounces/113 grams by weight, and 8 tablespoons/gods know what that is in metric in volume. That may differ where you are.

Most places don't use metric measurements for cooking, thank the gods. (I find the metric system chillingly inhuman; I'm happy for the small holdouts of a more human set of measurements)

I say the same thing in Ontario. Depending on where the OP is from, maybe it's North American?

If the problem's to do with physical books could they at least get the PDF on DriveThruRPG or something? I've got a whole mass of RPGs and related books from there and it's where I'd meant to get Weird of Hali too.
