In fairness, this was a great result for Russia, China and Iran, among many others. They now know that they can help aggravate this partisan strife for years to come, and keep the USA off their backs accordingly.
Watching this from outside the US, I think this is a steep leg down for America, and its general prestige. It simply isn't possible for a country so irretreivably clownish to project "leadership" to the rest of the world.
