The Taoist internal alchemy is another survival of the pure ancient tradition, but it's properly reserved for capable and experienced practitioners who have a reasonable chance of success. Keep in mind, however, that China has one of the world's richest and most grisly traditions of vampire lore; clearly the debased side of the tradition is also present and accounted for.
